 | Rosa
Ancín (2005) - Avila, SPAIN

Rosa Ancín has been involved in dance classes since
her childhood in her home-town, Salamanca, Spain, and there she started to
show her creativity when choreographing dances at school for her colleagues.
She has experienced many different kinds of dance from modern and classical,
to ballroom and folk Spanish and international dances, learning dances from
Israel, Rumania, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Ireland, Senegal, Italy etc. In her
youth Rosa belonged to an artistic group of Folk dances and traditions in
Salamanca doing research and performances with 2 shows in Spain
“Salmantinidades” & “De Pascuas a Ramos”(1983-84). Later on Rosa focused on
dances from Israel and received classes from French Masters such as Vincent
Parodi & Benny Assouline, and also received training of these dances with the
own creators in workshops in Spain , France , England and Bulgaria. She also
attended the Koprivshtitsa traditional dance and music Festival where she had
classes with the prestigious dancer Belco Stanev. When Rosa moved to Ávila she
started some teacher training in ballroom and latin in Madrid combining it
with tap dance classes and workshops in Madrid, Barcelona, Ireland and France.
She graduated in the University of Salamanca with a degree in English
Philology and Pedagogy and now she combines her work as an English teacher in
High school in Arenas de S. Pedro, Ávila, with her professional career as a
ballroom, Latin and tap dance teacher. She has studied Spanish dance with
prestigious dancers such as José Granero, Isabel Quintero, Cintia,Candela
Soto, Berta Vallribera and Pilar San Clemente (actress and first ballerina of
Antonio Gades ballet and one of his wives), and Rosa currently belongs to an
artistic group of flamenco dance directed by Pilar in Arenas with performances
in the area. Rosa´s philosophy is that “a good teacher is always learning and
a good dancer must communicate to his/her audience” .Therefore she is
constantly receiving formation from different sources and getting in touch
with different styles of dance and music. Her passion for Tap led her to join
classes in Madrid with Barry Burguess ,John Óbrien and Louisa Merino. She also
traveled away from Spain and had some training in France having classes with
Victor Cuno and Fabrice Martin in 2003 .Finally She traveled to the USA and
joined the Teacher Training Certification Program with the American Tap Dance
Institute which gave her a solid foundation in tap teaching. She teaches tap
dance in Arenas and Salamanca and regularly attends workshops in Spain. Rosa
likes working with different kinds of music in her classes and she likes to
focus on style & performance quality, on occasion mixing flamenco and Latin
movements when dancing tap and bringing an ingredient of fun to the class. She
considers that technique is important but she is convinced that dance is
communication and every dancer has ideas & feelings to express, therefore some
training in self-expression & style is something a dancer mustn't lack.
“I´m grateful for the wisdom and training received from the
TTP and feel honored to be the first Spaniard to graduate from the American
Tap Dance Institute.”

 | Christophe
Château (2005) - Jersey, UNITED KINGDOM
Christophe started tapping when he was 17
years old in an adult beginner’s tap class. As the only man in the class and a
late comer to ‘tap’ Christophe showed an early love for Tap dance and a
determination to improve and constantly learn – character attributes that have
stayed with him ever since. After a 2 year stint in Oregon, Christophe
discovered a love for dance and with determination in his heart, danced
professionally for over 12 years back in the UK. Christophe learned the trade
‘on the go’. In each show he would ask the dancers to show him the moves,
until he could not only do them, but perform them better. This talent enabled
Christophe to dance for many years in the UK and abroad for both residential
and touring shows. During this time Christophe earned his British Equity card
and eventually one particular show brought him to the beautiful island of
Jersey, where he now lives with his wife and two daughters. Christophe and his
wife Julie now run a local entertainments company ‘Performers’ and specialize
in corporate dance and theatre for the corporate entertainment industry.
Christophe is now teaching Street Jazz and Adult Tap Dance for Performers as
well as teaching tap dance for the local Adult Education College. Christophe
is also a professional mime and clown, so he is naturally great with kids and
hopes to start teaching children’s classes soon. Christophe strongly believes
that as a tap dance teacher he has a role to play in shaping the next
generation of tap dancers. He is very passionate about utilizing his skills
and knowledge and is working hard to create more tap opportunities -
especially to encourage more boys to try tap dance. They just don’t yet know
what they are missing and how much fun it is!
Mr. Château is "very proud to be the
first British person to graduate from the TTP. I would like to thank Chris
Baker for his guidance during the TTP and for his never ending support and
focus."

of Dance and Affiliated Artists and other conventions held in the United
States, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Her early training with MaryLou Ney and Orest

successful dance academy that produced many professional dancers and
choreographers during its 18 years. Justine is a “disciple” of Gus Giordano
and has demonstrated for him throughout the United States. She appears on the
video “The Jazz Ambassador” and she is currently writing a book about Mr.

to her unique teaching abilities. Currently, Justine is an adjudicator for
competitions on the East coast and is choreographing for two professional jazz
companies. "The American Tap Dance Institute enabled me to further my
education and made me realize that I will never stop learning about this
wonderful art form: tap. I am currently working on the physics of tap and how
it can affect the dynamics and other nuances of the sounds produced by our tap
shoes and feet."

 | Kelly
DeBouver (2003) - Nova Scotia, CANADA

It has been said that great dancers are not
great solely because of their technique, they are great because of their
passion - a passion that developed early for Kelly DeBouver. Kelly began
dancing at age three and currently teaches dance in Berwick and Kentville,
Nova Scotia in Canada. She has studied under various teachers across Canada
and the United States and began her own dance school in 2000, teaching tap and
jazz. She has performed in numerous events such as the Nova Scotia
International Tattoo (in which she wore foot microphones in order to be heard
by the 10,500 spectators) and at various community events and theme parks. She
has tapdanced on the morning show Breakfast Television twice and has competed
across the Maritime Provinces winning numerous awards. She volunteers at local
schools and and recreational programs promoting dance and her dancers perform
across Nova Scotia at local events and competitions. Although she loves every
form of dance, tap has always been her favorite. Her passion for tap brought
her to ATDI: "My experience with the TTP program has taught me the value in
the words spoken by Albert Einstein when he said, "It is the supreme art of
the teacher to awaken joy, creative expression and knowledge."

 | Lourdes
De la Isla (2007) - Mexico City, MEXICO

"I started dancing “officially” at the age of 7 years old, unofficially I
think, the moment I found out that I could move my body and feet to the music.
My love for dancing is part of
my essence. I recall being very young when one of my first elementary school
teachers was going to perform for other teachers, I hid under the tables of
the dinning room from my school to see her dancing, of course I got into
trouble, but I did not care, because it was the best experience I could have
had. Finally after many arguments and interminable talks from my mom to
convince me that every girl wanted to become a dancer, she was the one who
understood that I really wanted to dance, so I started my formal lessons with
a marvelous teacher, Betty La Fontaine, she knew exactly how I felt about
dance and gave me the opportunity to take every class in her studio, for just
a symbolic charge, so from 4 to 10 PM I would be dancing every week day,
taking classes from Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hawaiian and Tahitian, Afro, Folk
Mexican dances, Flamenco dance, Latin dances. I was the happiest kid in the
entire world. As I grew up I wanted to decide which type of dance was my
favorite and against all odds, because I loved Flamenco too, I started dancing
Tap basically, I went to study College to the USA, in California and met
another icon in my Tap dancing teaching career, Jéré Curry. He gave me the
opportunity to keep returning to his Summer Dance Camps for 12 years in a row,
after I needed to come back to my country to finish my Psychology Major here
in Mexico. In these Camps I had the chance to take classes with Eddie Brown,
Linda Sohl Donell, Connie Mockenhaupt, Althea Short, Celine Cagney among
others. In the meantime I started teaching here in Mexico and in the Summer as
a TA with Mr. Curry. Also started looking for new learning possibilities in
other places such as New York, Portland, Or., Texas, and there I also had the
chance to take classes from Sam Weber, Heather Cornell, Gracey Tune, Debbie
Dee, etc. These opportunities have been such a blessing for my now yearlong
career as a Tap dancing teacher. At the same time, here in Mexico, I
started learning the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing), tap
dancing training with Joan Mondellini, to get my Associate and Associate
Diploma (Teaching degrees). My last but not least training is now with the
ATDI and Program Director, Chris Baker, which has made me reconfirm my
passion-mission as a Tap dancing teacher. My practice as a Psychotherapist is
one of the complements to my life purpose, which includes goals such as, be a
mentor to my students, share the therapeutic characteristics of tap dancing,
spread the seed of love for tap dancing here in my country and tap dance to
Latin music. Currently I teach every year in the Summer for the Davis Art
Center and the rest of the year in my own my dance Studio, Harmony 2000, in
Mexico City."

 | Karin
Dierckx (2003) - Schiedam, THE NETHERLANDS

Karin Dierckx is a Belgian dance teacher living
in the Netherlands these days. She is a Datacomms engineer with a huge passion
for dance. Though tap dance has a special place in her hart, it is by no means
the only form of dance she practices. Karin followed ballet training (RAD
system), and works towards teacher certification in that area as well. Karin
is a performing member and soloist of the "Rudolf Fitskie Showdancers", a
showdance team that performs regularly in the Netherlands and abroad. Lately
she has been lucky enough to have been given a tap dance solo in one of the
theme shows! Whenever and wherever she can she attends jazz dance workshops;
Karin loves to learn from lots of jazz dance teachers and aims to build her
own style out of as wide an variety of styles she can get herself exposed to.
She also teaches a Jazz Fast beginners class at the Rudolf Fitskie Dance
Studio in Schiedam, The Netherlands. Soon after Karin took her first
tap-steps, she became addicted to this wonderful art form. She began studying
at European and US workshops almost immediately, more often than not with the
great teachers of the National Tap Ensemble. She is delighted to have had the
opportunity to go through the ATDI's Tap Teacher Training Program, and is
proud to have graduated together with a team of great tap teachers in the
Summer of 2003. Karin teaches weekly classes at the Rudolf Fitskie Dance

 | Heidi
Eber (2001) - Maryland, USA

Dancer, singer, student, Heidi Eber began performing at age 4 and continues to
study dance today. She has a Bachelor of Science in International Politics
from Georgetown University and worked for the Federal Government for 6 years.
She enjoys being a full-time Mom and part-time dance instructor, teaching Tap,
Jazz, and Lyrical. Heidi is also active in various volunteer works with Girl
Scouts, her United Methodist Women units, and the local public school.
“Working with the younger generation, and in particular, with young girls, is
critical to the future of this country. Children today need positive role
models and validation to enhance their spiritual self-esteem. They need to
know that they can do anything - whether it’s wings in tap or flying for the
Armed Services. Dance is something they can do their entire lives, and as a
foundation makes all other exercises, sports or martial arts, easier. Besides
that, tap dance is the most fun of all. What kid do you know that doesn’t
clomp around the house making as much noise as possible? Why wouldn’t you want
to turn that noise into real rhythm… with tap dance!”

style, he switched to ballet, and aspired to join a ballet company. He moved

 | Megan
McDaniel (2001) - Florida, USA

Megan McDaniel, who began dancing at the age of 3, prides herself in being a
well-rounded dancer. While she enjoys other dance forms such as ballet, jazz,
and modern, she really fell in love with tap five years ago. It was 2000 TTP
Graduate Danielle Heller who inspired Megan and pushed her to pursue her
talent. In 1999, as a member of The Tap Company (Boulder, Colorado) directed
by Ellie Sciarra, Megan performed in "Taps are Talking: Women In Tap." In May
2000, Megan received her bachelor degree in Zoology from Colorado State
University where she also studied dance and was one of the key elements in
sparking a tap curriculum where there once was none. Megan now lives in
Kissimmee, Florida after making the "big move" from her homeland of Colorado,
and works in education for Walt Disney World. "I just try to learn all
that I can so that I can one day pass it on. I am so glad there is a program
to help me do this."

 | Julie
McFarland (2007) - South Dakota, USA

Julie A. McFarland lives in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. As
the Director of the Academy of Dance Arts, her studio has successfully grown
to include a vibrant faculty of 9 dance and movement arts educators. Her first
love was tap dance, but it was her ballet training which led her to the
top-ranked University of Utah’s ballet department, intensive studies with Wm.
F. Christensen, and professional performances with Ballet West, Utah Opera and
Ballet West for Children. Her passion for tap was rekindled when she returned
“home” with her family in 1998, and assumed ownership of the first studio in
which she learned to dance.
Julie’s teaching experience spans more than 18 years, with acclaimed
choreography for 9 full-length productions, including her “Over the Rainbow”,
“Peter and the Wolf,” and “Sleeping Beauty”. Her graduates have continued
dance studies in New York, California, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, with some
pursuing professional careers
in dance, and a performer at the Kennedy Center last Spring. Julie was the
principal dancer and choreographer for the 2004 world premiere of “The New
World Opera,” working with diverse movement styles in Native American Shawl
Dancers, Belly dancers, and a Kung Fu artist. Her most recent collaborative
work was for the 2006 Black
Hills Symphony Orchestra’s production of “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”
Passionate about bringing dance arts to her region, Julie is an active member
of the SD Dance on Tour advisory coalition for the SD Arts Council, supporter
of Allied Arts and South Dakotan’s for the Arts. For the past nine years she
has served as a member or officer for Black Hills Dance Theatre, a nonprofit
volunteer organization which provides opportunities in professional
performance, education and outreach to children and audiences in the Black
Hills and surrounding states area.
Julie is pleased to have graduated from the American Tap Dance Institute’s
Teacher Training Program, which will allow her to pass along the integrity of
its deep history, musicianship and technical training to her own growing
number of tap students. “I love that I am able to get up every day, put on
my shoes and pass along what my
mentors, teaching icons and dance legends brought to the planet! As teachers,
we never know how far the seeds we plant will reach!”

 | Clare
McGlade (2007) - California, USA

Clare McGlade started taking tap dance classes at the age of five, and
hasn’t stopped since. She received her dance training at A Dancer’s Pointe
Performing Arts Center in Apple Valley, CA. Tap was always her first love, but
throughout her 12 years at the studio she also studied ballet, pointe, jazz,
lyrical, and swing. She held leading roles in many of their productions, and
went on to perform in “Standing Room Only” Theater Company’s 2006 production
of 42nd Street. She spent 4 years as a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher
at A Dancer’s Pointe, and went on to begin teaching tap classes at the age of
17. After graduating high school in 2005, Clare moved to Riverside to attend
university, but continued to take any tap classes she could find, whether they
be one-time workshops or 10 week long recreation center classes. After
attending several ATDI workshops, it was suggested that she should consider
applying to the national tap dance company's Teacher Training and
Certification Program. Since her graduation in 2007, she has begun teaching
tap, ballet, and character dance at Backstreet Performing Arts Studio in
Riverside, CA. She is also heavily involved with the Swing Club of UCR,
teaching swing twice a week in the community, and competing and performing
with her partners, Nolan Ung and Paul Riding, in both the Riverside and High
Desert communities. She also occasionally performs with the up-and-coming
swing band, Phat Cat Swinger.
Currently, Clare is still an undergrad student at University of California,
Riverside, pursuing a double major in Business Administration and Dance. Aside
from teaching dance, she also holds a supervisory position in UCR Housing
Services as well as working some weekends at a small teaching supplies store
in Victorville, CA. She hopes to tap professionally one day, but only
after she has completed her degrees, and she ultimately hopes to open her own
dance studio. Thanks to the unwavering support of her
parents Sean and Ethel, her brother Stephen, and her amazing friends, Clare is
a very driven individual. Her love for working with people and her strong
passion for dance come across in her teaching, and she "plans to take the
training she has received from ATDI to not only improve her students’
technique, but also educate them in the history of tap and its legends. She
strongly believes in using the history of tap to produce the dancers of the
future, and she hopes that every student who takes a class from her will walk
away with a new appreciation for this amazing art form."

dancing days, Evan has performed on stage on many occasions and has been
involved in a number of musicals including Little Shop of Horrors, Jesus
Christ Superstar, Footloose, and the Rocky Horror Show.
Studying with the ATDI has "led me in a new and positive direction that
will help me to lead my students into becoming higher achieving tap dancers,
with better understanding of tap as a dance discipline. Coming from a syllabus
and examination driven background, I have learnt how to incorporate and adapt
new fundamentals and elements of creativity into my own students and in my own
teaching methodologies, all for the better. I suggest that any future
graduates must have a willing attitude to accept change as studying with the
ATDI brings a whole new meaning to Tap Dance and its instruction."
Although Evan’s number one passion in life is tap, he would like to further
advance his ability in jazz, hip-hop, ballroom and latin. Evan "plans to
travel in the very near future and hopes to take on teaching contracts
throughout Australia, the UK, or even your studio over the next three or four
years before returning to New Zealand to establish his own dance and exercise
centre."

 | Mary
Willams (2006) - Colorado, USA

Mary V. Williams started tap dancing when she hired Gene GeBauer (ATDI class
of 2000) to teach tap at her newly opened studio, Dance Forms Studio, in 1992.
Though she always loved dance, her opportunity to study dance did not begin
until college, and Mary did not seriously train until after completing her
Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado. She
began her dance career when she put on a concert of her own jazz and modern
choreography, "Riot du Jour" in 1990, followed by forming a dance company, and
then by opening her own studio. After training in ballet, jazz, modern, and
hip hop, she started studying tap with Gene and
other area tap teachers as well as at tap festivals around the country. Many
of her former Dance Forms students went on to become dance professionals.
Since 2000, she has taught tap and other dance forms to children and adults at
the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Dance Program. She has also directed
the Community Dance Collective, a non-profit dance studio in Boulder, since
1984. Always on the move creatively, Mary is an accomplished graphic artist
(Associate of Applied Science, Multimedia Technology, 2003, Phi Theta Kappa)
and has created logos, posters and art work for local studios. She is known
for her creative choreography, high energy teaching style, and passion for
dance. With certification from the ATDI, Mary plans on creating a children's'
tap company and focusing on tap choreography. "Tap requires you to be a
dancer, a musician and a percussive foot virtuoso, and all of these at the
same time! After more than a decade, I am just beginning to understand the
subtle nuances of this incredible dance form."

to always better herself personally and professionally, and therefore believes
in the motto: “Always strive for the next level in life. Never Stop

students and the community about this wonderful art form we call tap. "I am

wisdom, and guidance I have received I hope to continue on my journey as a tap
educator passing on the tradition of tap dancing along with its history and
musicianship to my students. I also hope to inspire them as well as the
spectators along the way." The ATDI has inspired Ms. Linda in many ways.
