Part of the national tap dance company's comprehensive educational programming, the American Tap Dance Institute (ATDI) is the National Tap Ensemble's Higher Education Division as well as a "think tank" or research institute that addresses issues common to most tap dancers. The Institute was originally created by NTE in the early 1990's as a way of responding to requests from tap teachers and high-level performers who were concerned about the lack of standards in the profession. Aside from its innovative annual "Spirit Of Tap" conference, the Institute is also known for its unparalleled Teacher Training and Certification Program (TTP) which has been producing knowledgeable, qualified, professional tap dance teachers for both the private sector (dance schools and studios, dance companies) and the public/educational sector (universities, colleges, etc.) since 1998. TTP Graduates include tap dance teachers from over half a dozen countries. Post-grad level studies and other curriculum-enhancing programs are in the planning stages. |
